Mother’s Day has long been one of the busiest days for restaurants across America. To better understand how diners are planning to celebrate in 2025, we surveyed over one thousand American adults about their Mother’s Day dining plans. The results reveal powerful insights into where guests are choosing to eat, how much they’re planning to spend, and what experiences they value most. Whether you’re running a full-service restaurant, a fast-casual concept, or offering special promotions, these trends can help you prepare for one of the biggest dining occasions of the year.
Here are the key findings you should know:
77.2% of American adults are planning to dine out during this year’s Mother’s Day.
Fine dining and casual dining are the most popular dining experiences (31.3% each) for Mother’s Day in 2025. Fast food is preferred by 13.4% while takeout/delivery by 6% of respondents..
47.8% of Americans are expecting to spend $25-$50 per person while dining out on Mother’s Day this year. Another 37.3% expect to spend $50-$100 per person and 10.4% expect to spend $100+ per person.
76.1% expect to spend more on dining out during this year’s Mother’s Day day compared to last year while 23.9% expect to spend same or less.
38.8% of adults will dine out during dinner while 26.9% will dine out during lunch on Mother’s Day 2025. Breakfast and brunch also have demand with 19.4% and 13.4%.
67.2% prefer chain restaurants as dining out option while only 31.3% prefer local/independent restaurants for Mother’s Day.
70.1% of Americans prefer to make restaurant reservations 1 week or less prior to Mother’s Day.
Mother’s Day menu specials are cited by 65.7% as an important factor in determining whether they will dine out a particular restaurant. Price (59.7%), vibe (50.7%) and availability of reservations (40.3%) are also frequently cited factors in determining customers’ restaurant choice on Mother’s Day.
55.2% of where to dine out during Mother’s Day will be made by moms even if children or significant others are organizing it. Children will make 19.4%, whole family 17.9% and dads 7.5% of restaurant picking decisions on Mother’s Day.
Overpriced menus is a common frustration among 64.1% of Americans who are planning to dine out on Mother’s Day. Long waits and crowds is second with 58.2%, no reservations is third with 49.3% and poor service is fourth with 23.9%.

For the purpose of this survey, we surveyed 1031 adults across America to assess their dining preferences for this year’s Mother’s Day. The survey was carried out on April 25, 2025 using Survey Monkey services.
