Super Bowl LVII attracted over 200 million viewers or 60% of Americans on February 12th, 2023 according to the NFL in collaboration with Nielsen and is most likely going to eclipse that number this coming Sunday on the heels of Taylor Swift’s newly found football stardom. Super Bowl is not just an event for football and sports fans but it’s a great occasion to enjoy food and drinks in the company of your favorite people.
To better understand how America is planning to eat and drink on Super Bowl Sunday, we surveyed over one thousand adults across the US and asked them what, where and how they’re dining during the Super Bowl. Below you are the key findings along with demographics and survey methodology discussed at the end.
95.1% of Americans who are planning to watch the Super Bowl this Sunday report that they will spend more money on food and drinks during the Super Bowl than any other sporting event this year.
53.3% of Americans are planning to watch the Super Bowl at home while 24.9% are planning to watch it at a restaurant or a bar. Another 21.8% will attend a party or someone else’s home.
Out of those who are planning go to a restaurant or bar, Americans are planning to spend an average of $106 per person this Sunday.
81% of Americans said that they will be eating pizza and another 46.7% said that they will eat wings and fries during this year’s Super Bowl. Salad was also cited by 35.4% of respondents as something they will eat this Sunday.
Beer (67.6%) and wine (59%) will be the two most popular alcoholic beverages consumed by American adults during the Super Bowl. Other popular beverages will be whiskey (33.3%) and cocktails (21%).
42.5% of Americans who are watching the Super Bowl at home plan on ordering food delivery or takeout this Sunday.
Uber Eats and DoorDash will be the most popular apps among Americans who are going to order food delivery. Grubhub and Postmates will also be used by 9.5% and 12.4% of those ordering food delivery.
Out of those who are planning order food delivery or takeout, Americans are planning to spend an average of $132 order this Sunday.
There is a reason why Super Bowl ads cost millions of dollars – they work. 87.6% of those surveyed reported that they are more likely to try new restaurants or food/drinks they see in Super Bowl commercials.
Taylor Swift’s mega influence is real as evidenced by 81.6% of Americans reporting that they would crave same food or drink if they see her having it during Super Bowl.

For the purpose of this survey, we surveyed 1050 adults across America who are planning to watch the Super Bow this Sunday. The survey was carried out during the span of two days on January 31st and February 1st, 2024 using Amazon Mechanical Turk services.
